redevelopment project of Haliç port, Istanbul
Key points of the project:
integration to the context (Halic port located in the dense residential area, which was lacking the public places and attraction points, turning it into the isolated district, where people only come to sleep); sustanability (analyzing the rising of sea level, it was clear that third of the area under the risk of the floodings, so we changed this part into the sponge parks that allows water to rise and filter it); inclusiveness (planning a new area we mixed different funcions there in order to avoid segregation there and attract all kind of people, making business areas, playgrounds, social housing, exhibition centers, and others)

prof. Antonella Contin, Ed Wall

The methodology of the project
proposal was based on the deep
research on the Istanbul, from the large
metropolitan scale of Istanbul till
the particularly project area of Halic
port. The analysis showed several
main issues to address: density of built
up residential area of the lot, lack
of both transversal and longitudinal
connections between Halic Port,
Galata and Northern-western part
of Beyouglu. This disconnection
appears for several reasons such as
geographical one surrounded by two
valleys, the social and economical
one due to the lack of attractions and
market-driven interest of investors,
as well as the disconnection in
infrastructure and public services.

The project proposal of Halic Port
is focused on transformation of
metropolitan area true the urban
growth and emerging contextuality.
Our main approach was to supply
neighborhood with the net of junction
points to recover missing “puzzle” of
Beyouglu sea front connection.
From the other side, the proposal
integrates transversally to the
neighborhood, attempting to organize
harmony between old and new
historical layers through the system of
urban blocks and axises.

Innovative Public secondary School, Milan
Key points of the project:
sustainability (school should be a safe space for children, so it was crucial for us to create a space, which can sustain itself, without emission footprint); inclusiveness (this building is welcoming everybody in the area, granting kids a safe space or studying, where they can express themselves and explore the world around); integration to the context (because of the lacking the public spaces and greenery in the area, new school provides it with new oasis, with public facilities).

New, natural, not a school.

Public middle school project in the
Segnano district in Milan, Italy. Main
goal of the project was to create safe
space for kids, where they could learn
and express themself feeling inspired,
happy and connected to the world
through the nature. Therefore, greenery
is a crucial part of our concept.
Through nature building is also
connecting with neighborhood , as
during the urban analyzes it was found
out that there were not enough open
spaces for people. So, my suggestion
was to enlarge public park area of the
project.

Thus, let us to the creation of
green areas system, where we have
public, open for everybody, park in
front of the school for meeting, resting
and leisure, semi private park, opened
for public in the evening and only for
students in the daytime, where they
can have activities, school’s meeting
and leisure, and private gardens in
the inner courtyards, accessible only
for students. Dense tree plating in
the front of the school and in the
bottom were made to create a green
belt around the school as natural
protection from cross roads’ noise and
exhaust gases.

In the 2026 Italy is going to host winter
Olympic games. Milan, in particular, is
going to be a center of them. Hence,
there is an urban program for the
transformation of the industrial area of
Porta Romana into an Olympic village,
the campuses of which will be transferred
to Bocconi University as dormitories
after the competition. In this project we
wanted to unite people, but also to give
them enough personal space.

Diagonal road works as connection
for the district and public green area
with railways behind the building. Also,
dialogue between the neighborhood
and the complex is created through form
and colors. Cut corner repeats buildings
around the round road as exchanging
buildings have, also the basis of the form
was the classic Milan type of residential
blocks with an inner courtyard, which
allows to separate the urban space from
the private. That allowed us to create
several blocks in the one building with
the feeling of unit.

Key points of the project:

Group project by Nakhodkina Diana,
Ramazanova Renata, Rostilova Sofia.

prof. Mauro Marinelli

The concept of the project was based
on the experience of the existing
town, which has tiny streets between
massive volumes, dark tunnels, and
vast landscapes. Everything in there
is created in contrast, so we wanted
to recreate these feelings in our
apartment complex. In combination
with these ideas, we created: a
massive building with light apartments
inside, a small entrance tunnel that
leads to the vast courtyard, rigid
frame with a round inside shape.

The task of the project was to create
an apartment complex with public
functions for the village, so we places
these areas (garage, kindergarten,
and co-working space) on the ground
floor of the building with entrances
from the outside. Whereas the private
apartments of the building complex
have their separate entrances from
the yard. The tunnel, which leads to it,
follows the existing street of the town,
welcoming residents to go inside
into the space lightened by the big
oculus. The oculus acts as a spotlight
on the stage where the actors or
viewers are gathered. The other two
rings on the roof plan, are created
for protection from snow and rain.
All of the apartments are two-story in
height, with staircases, storage, toilets,
and guest’s bedroom placed on the
ground level.

Key points of the project:

2022

Group project by Nakhodkina Diana,
Fabio Falcone
prof. Vittorio Uccelli

This project was inspired by Attilio
Bertolucci’s poem “Il riposo turbato”,
where he reflects on the life of Casarola, its nature, how society exists in it and purpose of life. He focused our attention on the role of the church in the town and that it should be an open space, always ready to accept those in need, that it is a
sacred space where everybody could
feel safe and include.

Looking at the initial poet’s house
and what role it plays in the village’s
life, we realized that Casarola needs such space, open and inclusive for everybody. That there are no piazza, where all people could meet and talk, spend their day together. Casarola is a small town, isolated from other towns by mountains, but people there are also isolated from each other. So, our projects proposing a series of squares, dictated by the natural
landscape, that will bring some life to the village.

There is an intention to use poet’s house as a inspirational place for intellectual people, who are willing to learn more about the Bertolucci’s family and also be inspired by their art and nature around. Our project is finishing this idea with framings of the view, that we presented in the pavilion and with squares that are holding the space of the house together

FRAMING THE VIEW

The Attilio’s studio has a strong view towards the hill and greenery. In contrary pavilion has a view towards the town and down the hill, opening a breathtaking scene. Thus, creates a dialog between these heavy structures.
INTO THE CORE

New piazza and entrance to the house leading visitors to one place - living room. Main space of the house, surrounded by two squares gives us strong indoor and outdoor relation of spaces designed for meetings.

modern Pagans' FAITH
I think the importance of this mural is that small implementations matter. It is made in the parking lot of Bovisa’s Polimi campus, and I hope someone is seeing it in the morning and it makes their day a little bit better, or maybe someone being homesick for a long time and it will give them a small piece of their culture. This mural turned yellow parking lot’s wall into something meaningful, presenting a new feeling to the wall.

mural by Nakhodkina Diana
Milano, Bovisa

The mural was made as a part of
“urban colors” workshop. Main
inspiration for it was my homesickness
for my culture, so I decided to reflect
on that and created a mural showing
traditional pagan ritual, but instead of
classical sacrifice of the scarecrow for
the good harvest, they are dancing
around burning wi-fi for the better
connection, as it is a one of the main
sponsor of our income, education,
shopping, leisure and everything in our
life nowadays.

I wanted to show, my desire of
reconnecting with my culture, where
I am living out of it and where we
are loosing it, because of the change
in our belifs and lifestyle. I have a
feeling that nowadays we are all
blending in, forgetting our differences
and not sharing and prasing them for
admiration and cultural exchange,
but ignoring them and trying to hide
turning in one grey mass. I want to
preserve my heritage and show the
beauty of it.
With using traditional drawing style
and ornaments for the mural, I wanted
to show connection between people,
our history, customs and modern
technologies that affect our lives.
